Learning to Talk with God

Dear Faith Family-

I just wanted to offer you a mid-week reminder and a word of encouragement concerning what we talked about last Sunday:

First, remember that prayer is a means both of communion (togetherness) and communication (conversation) with God. Each is important for our spiritual welfare. Sometimes there is a tendency to think of prayer as something we do only when we need something from God. Don’t forget that it is also a wonderful way just to spend time with Him.

Second, remember the characteristics found in the Model Prayer which should be reflected in our prayers: personal intimacy with God, reverence toward Him, an attitude of surrender to His Will, and an continued expression of dependence upon His provision for our every need.

If you missed last Sunday or want to review what we talked about, video, audio and study sheets from Sunday sermons can be found on the church website (www.fbcsterling.org) or at http://chuckandlari.com/index_5.htm.

On Sunday we sang a song titled “Breathe”. The lyrics go like this:

This is the air I breathe,   This is the air I breathe,   Your holy presence living in me

This is my daily bread,  This is my daily bread,   Your very word spoken to me

And I, I'm desperate for you,   And I, I'm lost without you.

God’s holy presence living in us becomes the life-giving air which we breathe; His Word becomes the daily bread which sustains us. What a beautiful picture of the communion with God which we experience in prayer! Be sure to take time to spend time with God this week!

This Sunday morning we’ll be looking at a simple biblical outline an individual can follow for prayer. I hope you’ll be present with us for worship at 10:30am.

Keep praying,
